Jamieson New Discipleship Ministries Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer
NASHVILLE, Tenn. October 12, 2016 /Discipleship Ministries/ – Janet Jamieson, a certified public accountant with a passion for working with congregations and clergy to develop faithful and transparent ways of dealing with money in the church, has been named chief financial officer/treasurer at Discipleship Ministries of The United Methodist Church.
The announcement was made by the Rev. Junius Dotson, General Secretary (CEO) of Discipleship Ministries, who said Jamieson will begin work on Nov. 7. She will assume the duties of Charles Carnahan, who is retiring on Jan. 1 after serving eight years as the agency’s CAO/treasurer.
"Janet is first and foremost a leader with deep spiritual grounding,” Dotson said. “I'm excited about her ability to connect the ministry of administration to our mission as an agency."
Jamieson, a layperson, currently serves as the chief financial officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee. Her experience also includes roles as auditor, college professor, writer and speaker.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to join the Discipleship Ministries team at this exciting time in its history,” Jamieson said. “I have always understood my work as a CPA to be my vocation, so I am eager to move into this new place of ministry. I look forward to finding strategic ways to steward the financial resources of Discipleship Ministries in order to best accomplish the mission of equipping world-changing disciples of Jesus Christ.”
Jamieson is the co-author with her husband, Philip Jamieson, of the United Methodist denominational Guidelines for Leading Your Congregation: Finance - Handling God's Money in the Church (Abingdon Press, 2012), as well as Ministry and Money: A Practical Guide for Pastors (Westminster/John Knox Press, 2009).
Janet and Philip are members of Brentwood United Methodist Church in Brentwood, Tenn.
She earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, and a master’s of science in accounting degree from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
