Support Mission Priorities, Ministries on #GivingTuesday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Nov. 23, 2015 /Discipleship Ministries/ – Discipleship Ministries is urging people to open their hearts and make donations to their favorite mission priority or ministry on Dec. 1, or #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated globally to giving back.
Charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for one common purpose on #GivingTuesday – to celebrate generosity and to give.
A variety of opportunities to give back are available from Discipleship Ministries at http://umcdiscipleship.org/donate, where donations can be made online to such ministries as such as E-readers for theological education in Africa, Ebola prevention resources and the Wesley Pilgrimage.
Supporters are urged to spread the word about giving by connecting with Discipleship Ministries on Facebook and Twitter and then sharing their favorite posts, including stories about why each mission opportunity is personally meaningful. In addition, supporters could announce their participation in #GivingTuesday on their social media networks and in email lists using the hashtag.

Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday, harnesses the potential of social media and the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities. It provides a platform to encourage the donation of time, resources and talents to address local challenges.
The concept for #GivingTuesdsy began at 92nd Street Y, a Jewish cultural and community center in New York City, as a new way of linking individuals and causes to strengthen communities and encourage giving. #GivingTuesday is celebrated in the United States on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, following the recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Last year, organizers say #GivingTuesday brought together 30,000 partners in 68 countries and registered 32.7 million impressions on Twitter, with the hashtag #GivingTuesday mentioned 698,600 times.
It also brings together the collective power of a unique blend of partners — nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses and corporations, as well as families and individuals — to encourage and amplify small acts of kindness. As a global movement, #GivingTuesday unites countries around the world by sharing the capacity to care for and empower one another.
