Equipping Lay People in Engaging People in Community with Jesus’ Love
By Bener Agtarap
When we talk about the role of the laity in the congregation, we typically refer to their duties and responsibilities inside the church. We value their involvement in the ministry and service of local churches. Yet, we also celebrate how laypeople live out their faith in God and life of discipleship in their daily living as followers of Jesus. We recognize their presence and witness in school, workplace, and public squares, where they engage their friends and colleagues with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Even more so, we ask, “What if thousands of laity were equipped and deployed to start new Christian communities?” Imagine the future church that can be any size, can meet in all kinds of places, and it is made up of all kinds of people with laypeople in leadership in partnership with clergy. With this in mind, consider using Lay Planting in Today’s World: Engaging All People with Jesus’ Love as part of your church’s efforts to create new places for new people.
