We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Steve Harper, a renowned theologian and author of Treasures Old and New: Wesleyan Faith for Life Today, will join us as a professor at Fresh Expressions Seminary through Fresh Expressions United Methodist! This special session, scheduled for Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. CT, will delve deep into the heart of the Wesleyan faith and its timeless relevance for the church in today’s world.

Dr. Harper, a leading voice in the renewal of the Wesleyan tradition, will bring his profound insights on how the church can draw from the rich theological and historical well of early Methodism while embracing fresh, innovative expressions of faith. As the world shifts and the church faces new challenges, understanding how to blend the treasures of the past with the needs of the present is essential for church leaders and laypeople alike.

What to Expect:

In this engaging session, Dr. Harper will explore key lessons from Treasures Old and New, focusing on how the Wesleyan tradition offers a framework for practical renewal and mission in the twenty-first century. By examining the “old treasures” of Wesley’s vision for “Scriptural Christianity,” attendees will gain insights into how these foundational principles can guide the church today. Dr. Harper will provide a path forward, blending these time-tested truths with fresh expressions of ministry that meet the needs of contemporary communities.

Throughout the session, Dr. Harper will highlight:

  • The importance of blending traditioned innovation in a rapidly changing world.
  • Wesley’s commitment to personal transformation and social justice and how these elements are needed today.
  • Practical examples of how churches can live out the gospel in new and meaningful ways, embracing both the old and the new in their ministry and outreach.

This session is not just for clergy—it’s for all who are passionate about renewing the church and engaging the world with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Whether you are involved in Fresh Expressions, working in inherited church settings, or simply looking for ways to live out your faith in fresh, relevant ways, you’ll walk away with practical tools and inspiration to deepen your engagement with the mission of God.
