FXUM Fall Listening Webinar Series
By Michael Beck
As we enter autumn and approach a season of harvesting, we are thrilled to share an exciting opportunity that's just around the corner—the Listening Webinar Series, brought to you by Fresh Expressions United Methodist.
In this ever-evolving world, where connection and understanding are vital, our Fresh Expressions United Methodist community is embarking on a Listening Campaign this fall throughout the months of September, October, and November 2023. This campaign aims to enhance our ability to listen — to God, to our congregation, and to our neighbors - creating a more enriched and interconnected community.
Join us for a three-part webinar series that dissects the heart of listening. We'll focus on the three essential aspects of the listening plan: listen to God, listen to the congregation, and listen to neighbor. These webinars are designed to be insightful, interactive, and relevant to your Fresh Expressions journey. We hope you will gather with us as we explore Deep Listening from the Fresh Expressions Loving-First Journey.
Webinar Dates and Details:
- Webinar 1: Listen to God - September 19, 5:00 p.m. (CDT)
- Webinar 2: Listen to the Congregation - October 17, 5:00 p.m. (CDT)
- Webinar 3: Listen to Neighbor - November 21, 5:00 p.m. (CDT)
Our host, Luke Edwards, author of Becoming Church: A Trail Guide for Starting Fresh Expressions, is a United Methodist minister and the associate director of Church Development for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Over the past six years, he has helped launch countless micro faith communities across Western North Carolina and North America. Before that, he was the founding pastor of King Street Church, a network of Fresh Expressions in Boone, North Carolina. Trained as a social worker, he has spent the last fifteen years exploring holistic models of church-based community engagement. Luke has learned a few things along the way, but the most important lesson he's learned is that healthy ministry begins with deep listening. He grew up in an area of western Massachusetts that was recently named the most post-Christian metropolitan area in the United States. Luke joined his first micro-faith community at the age of fourteen. He lives in Denver, North Carolina, where he enjoys hiking, coaching his daughter's soccer team, and cheering for Charlotte FC, his local professional soccer club. You can find his newsletter and spiritual listening plan at thelisteningchurch.com.
