About the Books We Are Reading

Romans: The Power of the Gospel

Written by the apostle Paul, Romans is one of the most profound books of the Bible. It explores themes of faith, grace, righteousness, and salvation. This letter was written to the Christians in Rome, helping them understand the depth of God’s love and the power of the gospel.

1 Corinthians: A Letter to a Divided Church

The city of Corinth was a bustling, diverse, and often morally challenging place. Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to address divisions in the church, correct misunderstandings, and teach believers how to live out their faith in community. This letter includes wisdom on topics such as spiritual gifts, love, unity, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians: Strength in Weakness

In 2 Corinthians, Paul continues his encouragement to the church, sharing personal struggles and emphasizing that God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. This letter is a testament to perseverance, grace, and the power of Christ in our daily lives.

Here are some testimonies from the previous reading challenges:

"Please continue with the reading programs. Sometimes, I don’t do my daily Bible reading because I don’t know where to start, or I’m hesitant because I’m afraid I won’t understand what I’m reading. Having the scripture in the actual email made it convenient to read, and the translation was easy to understand. I would also like a few 'thinking points' at the end of the scripture so I can review what I read. Thank you for making this program available to me. It has enhanced my Lenten season."

"I read it with my kids. Then I asked them if we should read Mark, Luke, or Acts, and they chose Luke. So, a chapter a night before bed has become a part of the routine. I’m very grateful for that. I’m enjoying it tremendously."

"I was truly blessed by the opportunity for inquiry and study and the accountability you held me to. As a disabled veteran, living with Parkinson's Disease for the past twelve years presents challenges for me on a day-to-day, if not hour-by-hour schedule. This study has focused my spiritual growth and journey in ways that help my physical body, cognitive state, and spiritual formation. Thank you for this opportunity."
