Safeguard Your Mailed-in Offerings

The FBI issued an Emerging Intelligence Report on June 21, 2021, warning U.S. religious organizations and nonprofits that they are being targeted by Romanian Organized Crime groups to steal mailed donation checks, as reported on the website of the ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability).

Various news media outlets reported in May that checks totaling almost $1 million have been stolen from churches across the country. The theives visited churches on days when there were no services and removed all the mail from the on-site mailbox – including envelopes with checks. The checks were then deposited by the suspects into dummy accounts they had established, and the funds were later withdrawn using ATMs.
