Over the last several decades, churches around the world have begun celebrating the Season of Creation as a time to honor and reconcile ourselves to the Creator and all creation through worship, prayer, and action for the well-being and flourishing of creation as our common home. The Worship Team of the United Methodist Creation Justice Movement has developed a new worship series for the Season of Creation 2024.

First Fruits and Fig Trees: To Hope and Act with Creation” is a five-week series that includes prayers, calls, benedictions, a Communion liturgy, sermon notes, worship planning ideas, a devotional guide, children’s moment resources, music suggestions, an invitation to participate in a chant with the whole connection, and more. Designed to be used in September 2024, the series picks up on the ecumenical theme for this year and helps United Methodists join the global movement to bring creation justice into worship. Since the series is not lectionary-based, it can be used at any time. Click here to learn more and explore the worship series.

Dr. Lisa Hancock, Director of Worship Arts Ministries, served as an organist and music minister in United Methodist congregations in the Northwest Texas and North Texas Annual Conferences, as well as the New Day Amani/Upendo house churches in Dallas.
