The Prayer Corner
Prayers for Worship in a Special Season
Welcome to the Prayer Corner. Not every event in the life of the church or community or world fits neatly into a lectionary worship series. So, we’ve created this space to place prayers that might be used at special times in the life of the church to help us respond to the moment. As always, these prayers and litanies are available to use with proper notation of the source. More will be added to this corner in the future.
We begin with this prayer for 9/11 from Dr. Mark Stamm, Professor of Christian Worship at Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas:
O God, whose Son Jesus wept at the death of his friend yet proclaimed the gift of Resurrection and Life: Support us who weep over the violence and injustice that we remember today, yet deliver us from bondage to a similar evil of hatred and revenge, that we may hasten the day when all people cast off the grave clothes of death; through the same Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.
