Discipleship in Global Cities

People of various ethnicities are moving to cities all over the world. In this webinar, Rev. Dr. Marcelo Gomes will address the concept and context of “global cities,” discuss the perceptions surrounding this concept, and analyze the dynamics of global cities in relation to missional practice. Specifically, this webinar will focus on a general understanding of the elements that make a global city and how these elements can affect disciple-making practice; discuss important concepts and definitions to understand the dynamics of missional context in a global city; and present questions that can help planning and implementing strategies for disciple-making and church planting in global cities.
About Rev. Dr. Marcelo Gomes, DMin, PhD(c)
Rev. Dr. Marcelo Gomes is an ordained elder in full connection with The New England Conference of The United Methodist Church, where he serves as lead pastor of First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, MA, and as certified clergy and candidate mentor. He served the Methodist Church of Brazil for twelve years in different roles, including pastoral ministry and theological training for lay leaders. He taught psychology and sociology in two universities in Brazil and served as president for one of the public Colleges in Rio de Janeiro. He served as a Global Ministries missionary for three years in Miami where he planted a Portuguese-speaking congregation. He worked as adjunct professor of transformational leadership and congregational care at Garrett-Evangelical Seminary COS between 2016 and 2020. He is a member of the NPHLM ((2016-2018), a licensed psychoanalyst in the State of Vermont, and a registered psychoanalyst in the United Kingdom. Rev. Dr. Gomes holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Boston University and is currently a PhD candidate at Sigmund Freud University in Vienna, Austria. He is the author of four books in the fields of education and psychoanalysis and is working on a new one about religion and migration. He recently joined Discipleship Ministries as Director, Training and Church Planting Systems.
