Advent Wreath Meditations 2013
Here are seven sets of meditations that may be used with the weekly lighting of candles of an Advent wreath on the four Sundays of Advent and Christmas Eve. The meditations may be freely adapted for use in worship, Sunday school or for use in the home. They consist of a Scripture reading taken from the Lectionary passages for that day, as well as short prayers and a recommended congregational hymn or song. The Scripture readings may be divided into individual verses with the hope that all members of the family will participate in the reading. If you do not have an Advent wreath at home, you may use candles alone — four of similar size and color for the four Sundays (purple or blue is traditional), and a white candle in the center for Christmas Eve.
Churches may wish to use these meditations as bulletin or newsletter inserts. Permission to download, use, and duplicate is granted with the inclusion of the copyright citation following each meditation.
