Prayer for the Days Between Transfiguration and Ash Wednesday
Alleluia! You are the God of glory and might.
Alleluia! In the face of death and evil you reveal your true glory.
In liturgy and sacrament we have been on the mountain
and we have seen the light streaming from Jesus, your Son.
Yet he tells us to tell no one.
Help us now to prepare to give up the "Alleluia";
not to lose it, but to refrain from attention to our version of glory
so that we may retrace the way of the cross
and come again to holy discipline and the renewal of our baptismal covenant.
Restrain us in our addiction to triumph and flawless perfection
as rewards for following you.
Content us with grace sufficient for messy and discouraging circumstances.
Guide us in days of Lenten solemnity
and the reordering of our affections.
Smile upon us
as we hold gently the "Alleluia" concealed in our pockets.
Anchor us in Jesus who knew no safety apart from obedience and prayer.
