Call to Worship
Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! Look, your king comes to you. (Zechariah 9:9a, NRSV)
Ride on, King Jesus, no one can hinder you!
Look, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9b NRSV)
Ride on, King Jesus, no one can hinder you!
See the crowd coming into the city! Join the glad procession with songs of praise.
Ride on, King Jesus, no one can hinder you!
We come, lifting our palm branches shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" (Matthew 21:9b, NRSV)
Ride on, King Jesus, no one can hinder you!
On this holy day, we come with lifted hands, waving palms, and raised voices to proclaim that you are the King of Kings and the Lords of Lords!
Ride on, King Jesus, no one can hinder you!
Followed by singing the Traditional Version of "Ride On, King Jesus," 77, Songs of Zion
Prayer
Today, God, we rejoice with Christians everywhere that there was at least one day when Jesus received the recognition he deserved. We rejoice, knowing that his triumphal entry means that truth cannot remain hidden and that good hearts everywhere recognize truth when it appears. We stand in hope with people on many continents, in many circumstances who are waiting for the day when their truth can be told. We stand with them in faith, knowing that the same God who could have commanded the rocks to shout truth in Jerusalem will not allow truth to be suppressed and good people to be crushed forever. Amen.
