Wake Up-A 21st Century Worship Resource for the First Sunday of Advent, Year B

These new lyrics for"Wake Up Everybody" as sung by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were written to convey the urgency of the apocalyptic tone of the first week of Advent. It retains the chorus of the original song.

Wake Up!

Verse 1
Wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed!
No more thinking that you still got more time ahead
Can't you see the Son of God is just about to come?
You can't do it on your own no matter how you try.

Verse 2
Wake up all the preachers, time to preach a new word
The signs are all around us and not all have heard
Can't you see the suffering and the misery?
People running far from God, dying in the street.

The world won't get no better ….

Verse 3
Wake up all the teachers, time to teach a new way
God has given every word that ya' need to say
When you teach with the love that God has given you
Then they'll get it and they'll do what they're supposed to do.

Verse 4
Wake up all believers, you who say you know God
You've been given spiritual gifts so wake from your nod.
You've got responsibilities for what you're called to do
You can't keep on living, lying, doing what you do.
